An aroma hop developed and released by the Slovenian Institute of Hop Research and Brewing in Žalec, Styrian Cardinal was bred from European and American germplasm. It is one of the newest Slovenian hops and has a complex yet fruity personality.

Styrian Cardinal has a medium to high alpha-acid content, giving the beer a strong, harmonious and typical aroma. Styrian Cardinal hop is known to have a typical citrus and fruity profile, offering predominant notes of gooseberry, pineapple and passionfruit alongside flavours of green tea, banana, caramel, quince and sometimes chamomile to a brew.

Styrian Cardinal has a high resistance to downy mildew and it matures early in the season. It has very good storage capacity. Due to its varied and harmonious flavour profile, it is a great hop to use to make a new or experimental brew with and craft brewers around the world admire its complex characteristics.
