Developed by Hop Breeding Company and released in 2007, Citra® HBC 394 cv. features high alpha acid and total oil content with a low percentage of co-humulone. It is one of the top ten aroma varieties for craft brewers imparting distinct citrus and tropical fruit flavours. Since its release in 2007, it has become one of the top ten aroma varieties for craft brewers across the world. This is thanks to its distinct citrus flavours with some lovely hints of tropical fruit flavours as well. It features a high total oil and alpha acid content with a low co-humulone percentage and has flavours of lime, mango, melon and grapefruit. Citra is a very sought after hop by brewers across the world. Most use it for its intense citrus flavour and aroma. With the big 4 mentioned above, also come sublet notes of lime, passion fruit, gooseberry and lychee, so this hop can add a tremendous amount of taste and smell to any craft beer. Citra has become a firm favourite for craft brewers because it provides some beautiful flavours and allows them to play with this flavour. It has become a very recognisable hop since its release, so brewers can be pretty sure that a beer with Citra in will be a favourite by their customers. Also, thanks to its reasonably high acid content, it is an excellent choice for American Ales, IPAs, and Pales. Supply of Citra hops have been limited since it was first released, due to Citra’s popularity, but we have a decent supply chain and always a lot of love for this hop!
